Surfing in Ericeira
Ericeira, "the surf capital of Portugal", offers a great variety of waves, situated in just a few kilometres of coast. In 2011, Ericeira was chosen to be one of the four World Surfing Reserves, together with Malibu and Santa Cruz in California and Manly Beach in Australia.
Beginners
Ericeira is a good place to start surfing. The beaches south of Ericeira, Foz de Lizandro and Sao Juliao are both beach breaks and perfect for beginners. Sometimes Praia do Sul also work if the conditions are right.
It is a lot of surf schools for both beginners and all the way up to advanced levels.
Intermediates
The beach breaks above are also a good place to surf for intermediates. We also highly recommend the famous reef break Ribeira d’Ilhas, north of Ericeira.
Experienced surfers
Experienced surfers have numerous spots to explore, 15 surf breaks in just 8 kilometers of coastline. Just to mention a few: Coxos, Pedra Branca, Backdoor, Reef, Cave and Crazy left. Further north you have spots like Santa Cruz, Praia Azul and the famous beach breaks in Peniche. In the south you have Praia do Magoito, Praia Grande and Praia do Guincho.
Consistency
Ericeira is a very consistent all year round surf destination.
Surf school
There are lots of surf schools in Ericeira. We can organize surf classes with pick-up service at the Villas.
